The story of GP's is the story of the Politis family — a Hudson County hospitality dynasty that began nearly a century ago and still lights the candles every night on 69th Street.

It began in 1932

A name Hudson County has trusted for nearly a century

It started with James Politis and the Lackawanna Restaurant inside the Hoboken Terminal — the first of the Politis family restaurants. His son, George James Politis, Sr., went on to run the exclusive Union Club in Hoboken, a meeting place for the city's who's-who through the 1970s.

George Sr. opened GP's East Rib & Grill along the cliff on Boulevard East, with breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline. In 1977, GP's came home to 69th Street in Guttenberg — and we've been here ever since.

Look around the room and you'll see decades of Hudson County looking back — the regulars, the celebrations, the faces that made GP's what it is. We've never been in a hurry to take them down.

That's the thing about a neighborhood restaurant: the history isn't in a brochure. It's on the walls, in the recipes, and at the table right next to yours.

A century at the table

1932

The Lackawanna

James Politis opens the Lackawanna Restaurant in the Hoboken Terminal — the first of the Politis family restaurants.

1970s

The Union Club & East Rib & Grill

George James Politis, Sr. runs the exclusive Union Club in Hoboken, then opens GP's East Rib & Grill on the cliff along Boulevard East, with sweeping NYC skyline views.

1977

Home to Guttenberg

GP's moves down the road to its current home on 69th Street in Guttenberg — the gem that's anchored the neighborhood for more than four decades.

2012

GP's at Hamilton Park

George Politis Jr. carries the tradition forward, opening GP's in Hamilton Park — a beautiful park-side room in historic downtown Jersey City.

Today

All in on the original

After eight impeccable years in Hamilton Park, the Politis family chose to pour everything back into their gem — the original GP's in Guttenberg. George Jr. continues the tradition of Hudson County hospitality, one table at a time.
